Experts from the Ostrava Uni
Experts by experience from the University of Ostrava have been active at the Faculty of Social Studies in Ostrava since June 2018. They are a team of people with lived experience of social or health-related challenges who have used social work services in the past or present and are willing to reflect upon and share their experiences publicly. Experts with lived experience teach in tandem with an academic as co-lecturers. They share their life stories and experiences with students, primarily through methods of storytelling. In group discussions they help students identify the needs of people in challenging life situations, whom students will encounter in their practice, helping students to overcome the stereotypes and bias associated with certain life experiences.
Experts with lived experience offer their expertise in the following areas:
- mental health
- addiction
- sex industry
- foster care and institutional care
- homelessness and social housing
- imprisonment
- domestic violence
- childhood abuse
- transgender issues
- living with a disability (cerebral palsy, ostomy, epileptic seizures)
