Siloe Ostrava
Who are we, and with whom do we work?
We are a faith-based organization facility – Slezská diakonie. The mission of Slezská diakonie is to provide quality social services to people in need based on Christian values.
SILOE Ostrava provides services to people with memory disorders (Alzheimer's dementia, etc.) for 50+ year-old people in the Moravian-Silesian Region. We run a day care centre (during the day from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.), respite care services (short-stay accommodation), and a home with a special regime (providing residential services to clients).
The home has a capacity of 26 beds (we are small, family facility). Respite care service occupies 5 beds. The day care centre capacity is up to 20 persons. The home was opened after complete reconstruction in 2016. The building has three floors. 2-3 workers are on duty on each floor every day. Some of them are activity workers. We also have nurses.

Student internships
The internship is set for a certain number of hours a day. During the morning, you will certainly participate in breakfast and snack time (at approx. 10 a.m.), and joint activities. Activities for you to join: memory exercises, morning warm-up, discussions on a certain topic called We Remember Together – e.g. favourite recipes, seasons, Christmas, etc.), we like to sing, colour mandalas, make various arts and crafts, and go outside to our garden (it is newly reconstructed), or for a walk. Sometimes we also go on trips with clients (for various exhibitions, etc.). At approximately 11:30 a.m. we go to lunch together (you can eat with us) and then clients go to sleep for about two hours. At that time, there is a complete rest time, when social workers have some time to do required paperwork and talk to you. In the afternoon a snack is prepared and there is another round of activities. At that time, there are also visiting hours. Dinner is being prepared and served at around six o'clock in the evening. Every Wednesday morning, the pastor comes to have a talk with our clients. Of course, throughout your internship, you will be under supervision of a social worker who will help you complete your assignments and acquaint you with his/her workload, so that you get to know the work of our helping professionals.
