The Dean of the Faculty of Social Studies, University of Ostrava announces a selection process r.n. OU-8004/20-2025 for the position of
- Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, with a specialisation in Social Work with a functional assignment as the Director of the European Research Institute for Social Work (ERIS).
The Director leads the ERIS Institute, whose mission is to implement high quality research projects in partner countries and beyond, and to produce high quality educational materials for social work degree programmes. For more information see the ERIS website.
What is this position?
A Professor, Associate Professor, or Assistant Professor who is entrusted with the position of Director of ERIS, whose aim is to conduct research (with particular emphasis on comparative research and to apply for financial support for research projects at the European level), to create an information database (on implemented research projects, dissertations, publications, publishing activities), and to support the professional growth of new researchers.

Under what type of contract will we work together?
- It is a fixed-term employment contract with a 6-month probation period. An employee is classified as an academic staff member and is assigned the position of Director of ERIS for a period of 3 years.
- In the case of selection of an academic staff member already employed at the Faculty of Social Studies, there is no change to the fixed-term employment contract, but only in the functional assignment as the position of Director of ERIS.
What is the monthly pay?
- The salary is based on the classification according to the University’s internal salary regulations and also depends on the applicant’s experience.

What do we expect from you?
- University degree in Social work
- Appointment as an Associate Professor or Professor in Social Work (appointments outside the Czech Republic must be recognisable under applicable Czech law or associated international treaties) or evidence of a PhD degree in Social Work
- English language (C1 level)
- Czech language (C2 level)
- EU Research Level: for the position of Assistant Professor „R2 –Recognized“; for the position of Associate Professor and Professor „R3 – Established/R4 – Leading (research group)“
- Experience in managing scientific and research activities in an international environment
- Outstanding communication, organisational and team leadership skills
- Moral integrity and clean criminal record
