An Adult in One Day Conference
The needs of children and young adults in institutional care continue to be a lively topic of social work. Therefore, the Faculty of Social Studies gladly accepted the professional supervision and co-organisation of the conference An Adult in One Day, which took place on 8 November 2018 in the auditorium of the University of Ostrava and was organised by a non-profit organisation Mimo domov, z.s. (Away from Home).

On 4 October 2018, a specialized conference entitled “Case Management and Participatory Approach in Substance Abuse Services” was held in the auditorium of the University of Ostrava by the organising NGO Slezská diakonie and the Faculty of Social Studies, University of Ostrava.
INformal Conference. Family and Informal Care
Faculty of Social Studies, University of Ostrava and Advey services s.r.o. organized on 15 May 2017 a conference on International Family Day entitled INformal!!! Family and Informal Care in the Czech Republic. The professional conference was held at the Faculty of Social Studies, University of Ostrava.
The idea to organise a conference on the support of informal caregivers is inspired by activities that are aimed primarily at caregivers of (not only) children with different types of disabilities. Also, caregiving families with long-term ill patients overcome many obstacles and often their will to look after their relative at a home environment is just not enough. In everyday life, there is a lack of information on informal or family care and non-institutional forms of assistance to caregivers who look after their ill close relatives. Some diseases and illnesses are sudden with rapid progression, others protracted with progressively worsening prognosis. There is a need to think of mental illness and the burden that is placed on all caregiving families and their relatives. Therefore, professionals in related fields, physicians and community representatives should be informed about the options and services that caregiving families can take advantage of.
