Night of Scientists 2017 at the Faculty of Social Studies

At this year’s Night of Scientists, the Faculty of Social Studies offered three locations to the public; at the Faculty of Medicine, Dolní Vítkovice and the “Scientific Bus” connecting these two places.

At the Syllabova street campus, visitors could experience the city’s accessibility within a wheelchair, try the compensatory aids in the Center for Family and Social Care (Centrum pro rodinu a sociální péči z. s.), play BOCCIA, a sport requiring the use of a wheelchair, visit the Integration Club Brána or try floorball on a specially adjusted wheelchair.

On the route from Syllabova street to Dolní Vítkovice the visitors aboard the “Scientific Bus” were able to experience travelling by public transport with a visual impairment, make use of compensatory aids or use the assistance of three trained guides (two students and one pedagogical employee).

In Dolní Vítkovice the Faculty, in cooperation with homeless advocacy group ASLIDO, prepared a program for visitors titled Mobility in Housing. Theatrical activities introduced the topic of hostels and discussed the planned restrictions on housing allowances. Visitors could also see an animated exhibition about slumlords and its impacts in the form of dilapidated houses and growth of homelessness and how to defend oneself against this. Last but not least, the visitors could create a postcard with shelter theme.
